Come join Dr. Cathy Grace for Emergency Preparedness
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, April is, on average, the most active month for tornadoes to occur in Mississippi. Over the past year, floods and damaging winds have also taken a toll on communities. Good management of child care centers includes being prepared for various types of emergencies, whether they be man-made such as an unauthorized individual attempting to enter the center, or a tornado touching down. This session will examine the SMART approach for preparing to address emergencies while children and staff are present. The SMART approach translates into S for surveying the current procedures in place, M for making an emergency plan or adjust existing procedures for the purpose of improvement, A for acting on filling in the gaps in missing elements of the emergency plan, R for reviewing all information needed to carry out your plan and T for taking it to staff and parents for review and input.
